Understand what’s really happening inside your organisation.

And know what to do next.

Theta Waves helps founders and leaders identify the people issues affecting performance, growth and change: what is working, what is getting in the way and where to focus first. I do this through an independent People Diagnostic for growing and changing organisations, alongside Executive Coaching for the people leading them.

People problems don’t come neatly labelled.

They tend to show up as repeated resignations, decisions that can’t be made by anyone but the founder, managers applying different standards to their teams, roles that have expanded without ever being properly defined, or talented people becoming quieter and less invested.

Different leaders often have different explanations; some see a performance problem, others see poor communication, while employees describe unclear priorities or inconsistent decisions.

Businesses often respond by introducing another People initiative or policy, changing the organisation structure, running a values exercise or replacing an individual. Sometimes this is exactly what’s needed, but sometimes it addresses the most visible symptom while leaving the underlying problem untouched.

I bring together the business context, leadership perspective, organisational evidence and employees’ lived experience to identify the patterns between them and establish where action will make the greatest difference.

The Theta Waves People Diagnostic

I bring together insight from the commercial context, leadership priorities, organisational foundations and employee experience to identify the patterns, underlying issues and strengths that may be difficult to see from within the business.

The result is an evidence-based diagnosis, a People Strategy aligned with the needs of the business and a prioritised roadmap.

The diagnostic is particularly valuable during periods of growth, leadership change or restructuring, when retaining good people is becoming harder, or when leaders need a fuller picture before deciding what to prioritise on the people side of the business.

Executive Coaching

My coaching gives founders, leaders and experienced professionals a confidential place to think properly about their work, life and direction. Some come with an important decision or period of change. Others want to understand themselves more deeply, reconnect with what matters to them or make progress on something they have struggled to resolve alone.

I listen closely to what you say and notice what changes as you say it. Together we explore what might be driving those shifts, helping you to recognise the beliefs, emotions and patterns influencing your choices. From there, you can decide what you want and move towards it with greater confidence.

Calm enough for people to speak honestly. Experienced enough to make sense of what I hear.

Hi, I’m Kate Walmsley, an Executive Coach and Strategic People Advisor with over 25 years’ experience in HR, leadership and organisational change.

People tend to open up to me quickly. Within organisations this helps me to hear what may not emerge in formal meetings or engagement surveys, recognise patterns across different perspectives and translate those insights into practical business priorities. In coaching it enables people to talk honestly, understand themselves more deeply and explore things they may not have voiced before.

My experience includes:

  • Supporting businesses through growth, restructuring and leadership change.

  • Working across financial services, investment, telecoms and technology, including organisations operating internationally.

  • Helping reduce employee turnover from approximately 30% to 15% within a boutique investment business.

  • Holding a Masters degree in Human Resources (MCIPD) and the AoEC Practitioner Diploma in Executive Coaching.

Kate doesn’t ‘do HR’ in the traditional sense. She connects people decisions directly to business performance and explains the ‘why’ behind every change. She is trusted by people at all levels, commercially aware, fast, accurate and utterly committed.
